Documentary new Flentrop organ Osnabrück

For three years, documentary maker Tom van Midden followed our workshop in Koog aan de Zaan. From the first design to the last pipe: in the documentary Zaans ambacht: een orgel voor Osnabrück he takes the viewer along in the production process of a special project that is close to our hearts.

Flentrop built a new organ for the St. Johann in Osnabrück, inspired by the historic instrument that once stood there. A large part was completely rebuilt – including almost 1900 new pipes. Approximately 800 historic pipes could be restored, the oldest of which date from 1592.

Various Flentrop employees speak in the documentary. Their craftsmanship, dedication and love for the craft are the common thread in the story. As pipe maker Jeroen Rijpkema aptly puts it:

“If a piece of the Nachtwacht needs to be restored, you don’t cut a piece out of it either.”

The film offers a special look behind the scenes of organ building – a craft that lives and breathes in our workshop. And you can feel it. As the documentary progresses, the realization grows: this is something to be truly proud of as Zaanstreek – and as Flentrop.
