New project Osnabrück

Flentrop will completely rebuild the organ in St Johankirche, Osnabrück with the historic pipes from the old organ in it. In part, these are old pipes by Berner from 1784, but there are also pipes by Schlegel from 1592.

The project will cost a total of €1.3 million and is likely to be completed in early 2025. Noord-Holland Nieuws will follow this project in the coming years and made a 1st film and article after visiting the workshop.

"This is just incredibly fun, this makes you happy. You can make a new organ just the way you want it, that has a charm. But if you get to discover what the generations have done for you and if that is also very beautiful - it is really beautiful work - then it is just even more fun. That puts a broad smile on our faces."

From A to Z: the organ will be completely rebuilt with the historic pipes from the old one inside. “The special thing about this project is that the current organ still retains eight hundred historic pipes from the previous organ, or from several previous organs I should say,” Winkel says in his company’s woodworking shop in Koog aan de Zaan.

They are pipes that partly date from the year 1784 by the organ maker Berner. But he also used older pipes again. He signed a contract indicating exactly that, with crosses. These are probably pipes from the organ made by the Zwolle organ builder Schlegel. He worked there in 1592, so you are talking about seriously old pipes. All historic pipes are currently in the workshop in Zaandam, where they are being documented one by one.
